The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:3
On my desk, I have a card that Glen gave me for our anniversary six months ago. I keep it where I can see it everyday. Its beautiful verse says, “I love you with all my heart” and reminds me that no matter where I go, he will be with me. I know Glen took care in picking it out because he has learned that “words of encouragement” is my love language and he can speak volumes with a simple piece of paper. The card came with a bouquet of roses which have long since died and gone out with the trash, but the card and his words endure. It is the brand that you give when you care enough to send the very best. For years, I didn’t know that there was any other place to buy cards. That was before the mega stores and their cheaper versions. Wherever the cards are purchased, I enjoy having someone give me their written encouragement; it continues to brighten my day for a long time. I have some friends who believe that the best cards are not store bought. They spend hours creating their own cards. Using layer upon layer of fancy paper and ribbons, they meticulously hand make each card. The colors are beautiful and bright, the designs intricate. Sometimes, they use rubber stamps to add another layer to their cards. I once tried to work with stamps. I bought several along with some ink. Mine always came out looking like a preschooler had done them, so, I went back to buying my cards. However, the stamps my friends make are done with such care that they appear professionally engraved on a printing press. They add glitter or raised ink to their work and place the image carefully upon the page in just the right spot. Their designs are works of art, each a lovely creation reflecting the artist. When I read this description of Jesus in Hebrews 1:3, I thought of their stamps. It says that Jesus is the exact representation of God’s being. In other words, God took Himself and stamped it upon a human form. Jesus became man so that we could see what God looked like and how He would act if He walked here on this earth in the same situations we deal with every day. Just like my friends painstakingly labor over their cards to express their feelings to those they will send them to, God set out to find a way to show us how much He loved us by sending His Son. Just like Glen has said that he will always be with me, Jesus promised that He would never leave us or forsake us. When He died and rose again as a substitute for our sins, He went to Heaven where He sits beside His Father. It is through Him that we can have access to our Holy God. As the bumper stickers say, “God cared enough to send the very best.”
