He split the rocks in the desert and gave them water as abundant as the seas; he brought streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers. Psalm 78:15-16 (NIV)
On a map, the distance from Pensacola, Florida to Ellijay, Georgia doesn’t look far, but the drive on I-65 to I-85 to I-75 is a loooooong way. Made even farther because we had to stop at a fireworks store for about an hour. Youngest son will be a happy camper on the 4th of July. We put a limit on what we would spend and spent 60% more! Setting husband loose in a fireworks store is like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse. Finally, we arrived in Ellijay and found our way to the cabin that we rented site unseen from the Internet. I have to digress here to tell the story of how we found the cabin. A couple of months ago, when we were planning this week’s vacation, I was having a lot of problems at work. I was just about maxed out. With worry and fatigue, I couldn’t focus on choosing a place to stay. Ordinarily, I love planning our trips and sometimes, friends even ask me to plan theirs for them. This time, no matter what options I presented to husband, he found fault in it. I showed him hundreds of cabins and all of them had some flaw. Too big, too small, no river view, no deck over the river, no hot tub. Blah, blah, blah. One morning, on the way to work, I was dreading what the day would bring. After a long night searching the internet and hearing husband’s rejections, thinking about spending more time looking for a cabin sent me over the edge. I called husband, crying, “I can’t do it anymore.” At first he thought that I might mean I wanted a divorce or to quit my job, until I added, “I can’t pick a cabin.” He laughed and agreed to take on that responsibility. I got the last laugh when the website of the cabin he chose had flashy hearts dancing around on it and the name, “Lover’s Retreat.” Not only was it located on a river, but it had a hot tub and a garden tub. Now, I know where I was making my mistake! So, when we pulled up to a gorgeous cabin set in the woods down a secluded winding road right on a river with rapids, we were both happy. After unloading the car, I went exploring finding lots of great places to sit and enjoy the river. From a swing to chaise lounges to a rocking chair to a bench right on the bank, I envision a week of sitting and listening to the river run. Rest! And with a hot tub and garden tub, a little honeymooning to boot. Husband, however, found his place to sit. Right in front of the television! What the heck! He grabbed the remote and to my satisfaction moaned, “No premium stations, no movies!” I guess I get the last laugh after all. I’m fixing to show him some other places to sit. Starting right now!
I love seeing this, especially since I remember well when you were throwing up your hands in despair over ever finding the right place. He looks quite content, but you're absolutely right- roust him up!
What a lovely place! I admit to being a little jealous.
What a beautiful place you've found! It's a good thing there are no premium stations on tv or you might never want to go home!
