Guess, what? I won this week’s Haiku Monday contest and that means I get the priviledge of hosting this week’s Haiku Monday and choosing the theme.
This week’s theme is Pests.
At first glance you might think of insect pests, ants that invade your cupboard, cockroaches large enough to ride on or locusts of Biblical proportions.
But, there are other things that pester and annoy us too. Perhaps it is a human pest who you run screaming from at first opportunity. Maybe it is another animal like a dog that should have his own moment in the spotlight on dog-shame.com. Maybe it is a situation like a tailgater who thinks they can move you along if they ride your bumper. Whatever it is, crying child in a restaurant, woodpecker banging on the chimney cap, political ads or a pesky telemarketer, write about a pest in your life.
Traditional Haiku standards apply, 3 lines, 5 syllables, 7 syllables and then, 5 again.
Deadline is Monday, September 24, at midnight PST. Can’t wait to see what you all come up with. If you submit more than two, let me know which two you want judged.
Grins had trouble getting a comment posted. If you do too, send me your entries by email and I will post them. Cslu1@aol.com
Here’s my contribution about two pests in my life to get you started:
Dog
Ball rolls under couch
Spitting dust I retrieve it
Games Again. Dog wins.
Son
Mold in dirty cups
Didn’t I teach you better?
Wet towels on the floor.
congrats on the win
Apparently I can't comment on your blog.
A fly is buzzing
And I am hunting it – SWAT!
I am the winner!
But alas, I'm not!
Fly has escaped – still buzzing,
My office, destroyed!
first two are for fun.
My pressure-cooked head.
throbbing, pounding, and squeezing –
migraines bite, big time!
Starting to hate it.
Always typing the same stuff!
Stupid resume!
Here are my entries to the game hope you like and congrats it's a win well deserved oh and stop by my blog in the morning i'll have visuals if you like
trying to ignore
annoying buzz in my ear
brothers are such pains
self doubts linger here
covers me in moss fingers
pesky little voice
Use clear nail polish!
Use topical Benadryl!
Chigger misery.
Hi, Ms. Rider. Here is my entry. Visual is up!
Gods and goddesses
struck with light; made immortal.
I paparazzi!
I've never participated before. I guess I just post the haiku here, right?
I had a spider weave its web from my driver's side mirror to the door handle. Hence, the first one.
thin circles of silk
spider decorates my car
driving me crazy
My father-in-law has dementia.
dementia crawls in
thoughts weave themselves in circles
like pesty spiders
If there is anything else I need to do, let me know.
Linda, that 2nd one is especially good. Very apt and touching.
So, Plan "A" is it?
No! We do NOT like Plan "A".
Great! Plan "A" it is.
Island Rider:
I don't pay much mind to pests of nature…it's a mutual respect thing between us creatures that pester. The pesky voices of my inner self??? They do tend to gnaw at my spirit a might.
#1
Fire's on the mountain
Burns the flesh that taunts my soul
Jesus cries within
#2
FIRE! FIRE! Brain's on FIRE!
Doused with water; didn't work
Demons rule the roost
Oh, and I have visuals up at: http://ramblingsfrommytyper.blogspot.com/2012/09/haiku-monday-rafael-aka-pest.html, if you'd care to partake.
Here's to good times hosting (and good luck judging…hahahaha).

Csar, that gave me a good laugh. Extra points for using "say what?" It sent me straight back to at least 20 episodes of MOD SQUAD. Hi, Rafa!!
These are all great entries. keep them coming for a few more hours. Awards should be posted late tomorrow night. I am enjoying reading everyone's entries, but as you warned me, it is going to be hard to judge!
You desire money
You and the rest of the world
Go forth and earn it
Fat is choking me
Can’t hide it, decorate it
It’s who I am today
Possibilities
For anyone, anytime
Just make the effort
Congrats on your win last week Island Rider. Great choice of themes for this week.
Here's my one:
Saturday Mornings

Always at butt crack of dawn
Damn neighbor kids! UGH!!
No visuals for me this week. Good luck to all, and good luck judging Island Rider. It's a tough crowd as always.

Thanks, Fleurdeleo, for your comment.
Becca, I like both of yours.
I am surprised that no one wrote about mosquitoes.
