Some days start out bad and finish that way, but today, was not one of those days. In fact, it was one of those rare days when everything goes right from start to finish. We’re experiencing unprecedented cooler and drier weather for a Florida May. Cooler and drier weather brings good hair days. No frizz and straighter and silkier tresses that cooperate with the styling brush. May also brought the end of the 7 Experiment so I am not confined to gray and black clothing. I wore one of my favorite green shirts and felt good about myself when I arrived at work. The first email I opened linked to a newspaper article published today that told about my book and my career. It was a well written piece, and though I generally don’t like looking at pictures of myself, even the accompanying photo wasn’t too bad. That day I wore an outfit my friend Patty advised me was a “good look for me.” As a result of the news article, my phone rang frequently, and I received a lot of congratulatory emails. People wanted to know where they could buy the book, and one person even came by my office to pick up an autographed copy. The request for a signed copy still makes me cringe a little inside, but I am feeling less uncomfortable about it although I am still afraid I will ruin a book spelling something wrong! In the midst of book fever, I did some research, settled some questions and submitted a grant application. After work, I took Cory to dog school where she continues to shine. She is so easy to train and eager to please. Thirty years ago, as a hobby, I taught dog obedience classes and trained and showed my own dogs. I quit when oldest son was born and forgot how much I enjoy it. In those days, I would have loved to have a dog as attentive as Cory is. She makes training easy. At the class break, one of the instructors came to me and asked if I had signed up for more classes. She said it would be a shame not to take Cory on for more advanced training. I assured her that I had already enrolled in her in the next level. It made me feel good to know that Cory’s skills had been noticed. I came home to find an email from Cherie Hill who took my manuscript and made it a reality. Cherie has been marketing the book on Amazon and she advised me that not only had it been selected as a “Hot” new release, but it was on three bestseller lists! After a quick dinner (during which husband calculated how many books I needed to sell to break even!), husband took me to Dairy Queen to celebrate. I don’t take any of today for granted, even the banana cream pie blizzard. I am grateful for every moment, and know exactly Who to thank!
An Excellent Day
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV)
I wonder if any of your sales came from me? I take your book with me everywhere and a lot of people have noticed the cover and asked me what it was about. I tell them a little (what little I know so far) and tell them they can find it on Amazon – after carefully reciting the name and spelling your last name for them. I'm looking forward to another quiet spell so I can sit and read another chunk of it!
Sounds like it was a wonderful day! All good – so rare most days. You wrote a great and true story and, as it becomes more noticed, people will buy it. Here's hoping you become rich and famous-er.
