Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Psalm 142:6 (NIV)
It’s raining it’s pouring and not just outside. We have had some substantial rain in the last couple of days which is good for my orchids which have all decided to bloom at once. But, it is bad for my floors, because it is also raining in the house. We woke up this morning, stepped on the carpet in our bedroom and felt that wet squishy cold that only means water leak! We have had it before with hot water heaters, ice makers, dishwashers, toilets and once even water gusing from underneath the concrete slab, but it is never a happy day when you come full awake and have to start moving rugs and furniture before you get to brush your teeth. Though in this case, husband was hollering at me to wash my face and brush my teeth as he raced outside to turn off the water to the house. He wanted me to get it done before we had more flooding. Our bathroom is in the middle of the downstairs and in every direction for 15 feet, there was water. The wood laminate in the dining room is curling up, the carpet in the bedroom and closet are soaked and the tile in the bathroom weeping water from the grout. Husband could not find any pipes leaking or appliances draining. It is coming from inside a wall or once again, from under the concrete floor. You could see the water moving in tiny waves over the dining room as we rushed to clear the area of anything that might get soaked. We cut the carpet in our closet out and hauled it outside. I had hoped to replace the carpet in our bedroom this year, but not this way or at this time. All day long, in the midst of one of the busiest days at work that I have had in a long time, I was fielding phone calls from husband, from the insurance agent, and tracking the movements of the plumber who promised to be at our house at 4:00 this afternoon. He tried, even putting a stethoscope on the wall, a camera down the shower pipes and bathroom drain and moving out the stove to drill holes in the wall, but couldn’t locate the source of the leak. So tomorrow, the leak detector people come. At this rate, we will meet our $2500 deductible and get not only new bedroom carpet but a dining room floor, too. In the middle of that emergency, I started getting phone calls and e-mails from friends informing me that my e-mail account had been hacked. I was a busy girl sending out all kinds of spam and fishing e-mails to everyone I have ever sent an e-mail, too. It was a while before husband could get home and trace his AOL administrator password. Not only did my father and my boss get invitations from me to purchase Viagra, but the preacher got an ad about a Canadian Pharmacy. I hope that he didn’t get the one that linked to porn. If only I could figure out an advertising rate to charge the hacker, I might be able to pay off my plumbing bill. I keep thinking of that song, “Breathe.” I’ve had to keep reminding myself to breathe today. I keep thinking of the chorus, “I’m desperate for you.” Who do you go to when you are desperate? If you aren’t looking to Jesus, you are looking in the wrong place. Even when it is raining inside, He is there waiting to help you. Now, I need to be excused to go to the bathroom in the bushes and take a shower in the garden hose.

Breathe
this is the air I breathe
this is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me
this is my daily bread
this is my daily bread
Your very word spoken to me
And I, I’m desperate for you
And I, I’m I’m lost without you
Oh, no!!! I hope they find the source and that the damage ($) isn't too bad. I always say I'd rather deal with plumbing than electrical issues because plumbing can't kill you… but it sure can hurt your wallet.
I hope all your problems (AOL and pipes) get resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.
**hurray for new carpet*** shhh. Gotta find a silver lining in here somewhere!
I am so sorry for your mess. I have a number of stories I could tell about water in the house. Having a two-story house doesn't help a bit either.
Our last incident required replumbing our whole downstairs. The plumbers were fantastic. The company was "Wimpy's Plumbing" from Myakka City. I smiled when I heard the name. Then when I asked the plumber his name, his replay was "Bubba." I almost laughed out loud. But they did a wonderful job working all those pipes over head. The insurance men were impressed with the neatness of their job.
I'd love to sell my house before I ever go through anything else like that, though.
How did I miss this? Let me guess….I haven't been able to read in for ever. I am so sorry this happened to you! It happened to me in 2005. I had pneumonia and 4 sick children. We spent hours at All Children's and the pharmacy and then get home exhausted…open the front door…and Niagara Falls is flowing down my staircase and the ceilings are on the floor. The entire upstairs and downstairs is under water. The little hose that goes from toilet to wall sprung a high pressure leak and squirted water into the air for over 5 hours. Yep. We were homeless. They had to remove my two foster children who were both so traumatized…little man was screaming at 11pm as they were hauling him off MOMMY MOMMY! So in five hours I lost my home and my job. We lived with our neighbors while the contractor repaired $30,000 worth of structural damage including my oak floors and the kitchen. The three of us were in one room for two months or more…The Boy slept on the floor. I had a bureau in the back of my van where we ran for clothes…it was an experience to say the least.
