A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:21-24 (NIV)
I didn’t get flowers for Mother’s Day. In husband’s way, with a love language of Acts of Service, instead of flowers, I got a bunch of things knocked off my “honey do” list and the kitchen is now ready for NEW CABINETS. TO BE DELIVERED TOMORROW! While it will take almost two weeks more to get the countertops, at least we are on the home stretch. The breakfast room is now painted, sorry to all of you who encouraged color, but it is back to the same old Cake Batter also known as Vanilla. But, I got a fabulous rug on sale for 65% off and received an additional 20% off with a coupon. They practically gave me a room sized rug in multicolored flowers of purple, red, orange and blue with green vines and leaves. It will add color to the room as does my print of the three Guatemalan girls with a purple background. I got it when in Guatemala the last time and it makes me so happy to see it. I found out from the photographer’s website that the girls are sisters, Brenda, Claudia and Yocelin. And because I copped out with neutral walls, I called him and ordered three more prints that will add even more color to the room. I painted last weekend, so this weekend, husband moved an electrical outlet out of the way of the new pantry, put the outlet covers back up, rehung some wall décor and helped me clean the stovetop. He also fixed the sprinkler in the pasture and helped clean up the back porch. We were going to finish painting our kitchen table, but I think we are giving that project up. It is a laminate top, fake butcher block, farmhouse table from Montgomery Ward. We bought it when oldest son started walking 25 years ago because I was afraid he would try to pull up on the glass top rattan table we got when we first married. Once, a bag of marshmallows caught on fire when it was placed to near a candle on the table so there was a big burn mark in its middle, hmm, I wonder how that happened, boys? So, rather than buy a new table, since we also had to buy a new dishwasher and microwave, we decided to repaint it with some special paint designed to stick to and cover up laminate. But, the color I chose, slate blue, turned out to be more like purple and the thought of painting multirung chair backs seems overwhelming. It was nice to have husband’s help. We will both be glad to get the house back to normal which is even more out of sorts with all the pots, pans, kitchen utensils, appliances and dishes stacked in boxes in the living room. I hope, like childbirth that we forget the pain once we have a beautiful kitchen again. So, it was a happy mother’s day. Hope it was for you as well. Go here to see some beautiful photos and see if you can figure out which ones I ordered. http://jonkaplan.com/jonkaplan_gallery1.html
I'm thinking the little boy from Guatemala…
Love your kitchen table story… I have lots of sentimental furniture. I have to do lots of work on most of it.
